Pre-Kindergarten Program

multi-ethnic group of kids in a childcare facility

Pre-Kindergarteners at Excellent Start Learning Center enjoy our Early Childhood Curriculum, a unique combination of our professionally developed curriculum and our exclusive enrichment programs. The 4-5 year olds learn through a variety of stimulating, hands-on experiences, all designed to advance their development and prepare them for kindergarten.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program goals are aligned to Maryland State learning standards, ensuring that the Excellent Start’s curriculum builds the skills that children need for future academic success. Above all else, our staff is responsive to children’s varying needs and abilities, which builds each child’s confidence and instills a love for learning!

Pre-Kindergarteners enjoy child-centered activities in math, science, pre-reading, pre-writing, art and computers. Every day starts off with Circle Time, which includes songs, music, show & tell, poems, and group discussions; this morning meeting is the perfect time to introduce and explore thematic content.

Our Pre-Kindergarten Environment
The Excellent Start Learning Center environment is bright and colorful, encouraging children to be creative and have fun. Each pre-kindergarten classroom has been designed to offer a variety of stimulating activities. We incorporate many interest areas in our classrooms, including:

  • Language & Literacy
  • Science
  • Creative Art
  • Outdoor Play
  • Dramatic Play
  • Water Exploration
  • Computers
  • Blocks
  • Music and Movement

Interest areas are structured to offer opportunities for both quiet and active play, while promoting cooperation between children, and allowing them to organize their time. Our teachers encourage children to use their imaginations and to make their own decisions.

Our 4-5 year olds classrooms maintain a child to staff ratio of 10:1, allowing staff members to work with the children individually, in small groups, and as a class each day. Our staff maintains an assessment portfolio for each child, which tracks developmental progress using photographs, checklists and work samples. Children’s assessment portfolios are stored in the classroom with their journals, alphabet books, and other ‘works in progress’ – these materials are always available for parents to review.

This program is suitable for children between the ages of 3-5 years old. To speak with one of our representatives regarding your inquiries, please reach out to us at 410-655-8888 (Windsor Mill). You can also proceed to our Enrollment page to enroll your child now.
